Experiment with participation as academic achievement
Prerequisites
-
Students of BA and MA studies at the Faculty of Humanities have the opportunity to apply for participation in experiments and the reading of literature relevant to the understanding of experimental research as practice within the framework of the free electives to a maximum of 3 ECTS credits.
-
The application for this practice must be submitted BEFORE participation in an experiment (see Recognition of a practice). The experiment supervisor is obliged to check that approval has been granted before participation begins. No student may participate in an experiment without the approved form!
-
An experimental unit (EE) usually consists of participation in a linguistic experiment and the follow-up observation of this experiment in the form of reading a relevant scientific text and writing a short summary. Participation in complex and lengthy experiments can also comprise several EEs.
-
One EE comprises 25 working hours. Only one EE or a multiple thereof (max. 3) can be completed at any one time; it is not possible to complete EEs on a pro rata basis.
-
After completing the activities required for the internship, the person responsible for an EE confirms completion to the student on the form "Application for approval of the completion of a career-oriented/relevant internship". Students submit the form to the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Humanities. There the achievement is entered in UGO.
-
LingLab confirms the scientific quality and plausibility of the work as coursework by assigning an experiment number before the experiment begins.
-
A maximum total of 3 EEs can be confirmed for participation in experiments.
-
For support in planning and/or conducting an experiment as part of a mentoring program for experimental linguistics, 4 ETCS credits can be certified.
-
Students can only complete a practicum as part of either point 7 or point 8. Completion of both options is excluded.
Required documents
-
Approval by the Ethics Committee of the University of Graz
-
Short scientific description of the experiment: topic, design, expected results (max. 5000 characters)
-
Number of EEs to be confirmed for participation in the experiment. One EE generally corresponds to 25 hours of work.
-
Information on the reading assignments for participants in addition to participation in the experiment.
-
Number of participants and students required to plan and conduct the experiment.
-
Short description of the experiment for the LingLab website during the duration of the experiment (maximum 1000 characters), including the criteria for participation (e.g. German native speakers, dialect speakers, age, etc.)
-
Commitment to provide a description of the experiment for the LingLab website archives at the end of the experiment (maximum 500 words, English)
-
Declaration of commitment:
All publications based on the experiment, including theses, will be communicated to LingLab without delay for the purpose of being named on the website.
